The Neuropsychoanalysis Foundation supports research that integrates neuroscience and psychoanalysis. Projects may include experimental research (animal or human) designed to test psychoanalytic propositions or otherwise advance psychoanalytic theory; neuroscience research which uses psychoanalytic hypotheses as guiding principles; or investigations of clinical populations (patients with brain damage or other neurological impairment) which shed new light on brain-mind relationships from a psychoanalytic perspective.

Overview
This is a research grant for investigators at the post-doctoral level or beyond, offered by the Neuropsychoanalysis Foundation in New York City. These grants provide recipients with an opportunity to explore a broader approach to the study of the brain and mind. The goal is to facilitate integrated, interdisciplinary career paths for early-career researchers interested in advancing collaboration between the fields of neuroscience and psychoanalysis. Grants of up to $15,000 will be provided to support neuropsychoanalytic research conducted during one academic year at a mentoring institution or laboratory.
Criteria for selection include:
- appropriate training of the candidate for a future research career in neuropsychoanalysis (a range of backgrounds are acceptable, including psychoanalysis, psychology, psychiatry, neurology or other medical specialties, neuroscience, and others)
- feasibility of the research design
- expectation that projected findings of study will significantly advance the dialogue between neuroscience and psychoanalysis by (a) providing strong support for, or challenge to, a specific psychoanalytic construct or hypothesis; and/or (b) shedding new light on an existing field of neuroscientific, neurological, neuropsychological, or psychiatric research, or opening up a new line of inquiry into brain processes, by integrating psychoanalytic perspectives; and/or (c) advancing diagnosis, treatment, and/or prevention of a mental health disorder.
(The order of these criteria does not indicate a ranking of importance for funding decisions.)
