The 8th IPD/NPSA Rome Conference will focus on the theory and clinical experience of the use of psychedelic substances in psychotherapy and psychoanalysis, with the participation of Jeffrey Guss (USA), Chair of the IPA Committee on Psychedelics, Johnny Martell (UK), psychotherapist, Centre for Psychedelics Research, Imperial College, Mark Solms (South Africa), psychoanalyst, neuroscientist and NPSA co-chair, Heribert Blass (Germany), psychoanalyst, FEP President and IPA President-elect.
In the last number of years the so-called ‘renaissance’ of psychedelics research has received, and given, a great impetus to the understanding of the revolutionary predictive or Bayesian model of the mind. This model is linked to some research in the field of neuroscience and specifically to so-called “Altered States of Consciousness”, including those induced by psychedelic substances, and also found in the analytical setting and in other therapeutic or cultural practices (shamanism, mystical states, meditation). The 8th IPD/NPSA Conference in Rome will focus on this renewed interest in the assisted therapeutic use of psychedelic substances by highlighting how they can improve the knowledge of certain aspects of psychic functioning.
