Liverpool Jungian Neuropsychoanalysis
Description:
Group of psychotherapists and clinical psychophysiologists, dedicated to researching and developing insights from neuroscience into depth psychology and psychodynamic psycho-therapeutic interventions. The group was founded in the UK in 1988, and its members have been involved in delivering psychophysiological based psychodynamic psychotherapy in primary health care since that time. The psychophysiology is based around the application of clinical capnography (infra-red mass spectrometry) in the investigation of mind-body transductions, via changes in the pH balance of the bodies internal milieu. This approach was pioneered at Charing Cross Hospital London in 1976. A paper was presented to the XIIth International Symposium on Respiratory Psychophysiology, at the Wellcome Center London, in September of 1993 ‘Counselling and Capnography, an integrated psychosystems approach in general medical practice’ – by Pauline A Richards and Steven T Richards. Additional influence has come from the work of Anthony Stevens, and Professor George L Engel, and on the psychobiological front – Ernest Rossi, all of whom personally supported this development, and Carl Jung’s only son, Franz Jung, who also personally endorsed the approach: ‘Psycho-Systems Analysis, in May 1992. Recent influences have included the work of Jaak Panksepp, John Ryan Haule, and Erik Goodwyn. We are very interested in Dr Solms work, and see this as the future of psychodyamic psychotherapy.
