Workshop Overview
The workshop will consist of clinical presentations which Professor Solms will consider from the perspective of changes in psychoanalytic theory resulting from advances in affective neuroscience, e.g. the affective basis of consciousness itself (the conscious id); the meaning of symptoms; repression; the actual task of psychoanalytic treatment to exemplify the implications for clinical technique of these changing conceptions.
This follows on from the October workshop in which Professor Solms outlines his theoretical developments. Attendance at that workshop is not a pre-requisite for attending this one, although some prior knowledge of his ideas will be helpful to orientate the delegate to the clinical discussions.
We require four workshop participants to volunteer to present one case each. A case consists of a brief history of the patient and reports of two recent sessions. All case material needs to be anonymised in order to comply with regulations on confidentiality. Please email Dr John Hook at hook458@btinternet.com if you would like to present a case.
Professor Mark Solms is a psychoanalyst, neuroscientist and author. He was the founder, together with Jaak Panksepp, of the International Neuropsychoanalysis Society, and he is Research Chair of the International Psychoanalytic Association.
